Week 1 April Update

The First week of April turned out to be a complete dissapointment. In terms of volume and money I completely failed. Dispite staying home basically all week I still only magaged to get 120 games in. This is mostly because when I am running bad I usually only 1 table so I can concentrate better and win games I really shouldnt win. But 1 tabling 4 mans is like torture especially when you are losing. Playing 1 game for 30-45 minutes and then lose is def a slap in the face so I am back to 2 tabling I don't care if I'm losing.
The good news is I have managed to turn my April downward spiral into basically a breakeven stretch and I am even up +10 buyins since last post.
The bad news is I am still in the negative for this month in the tune of about 17 buy ins ($600).
Regardless I still have high hopes for this month and once variance stops being a bitch I am confident that I can get back on track to another big month.
On a side note I have noticed that short term downswings and breakeven periods actually make me a better player and person. So I am going to use this to be a more humble and grateful Person. I now realize that the $$$ I win is not always a guarentee regardless of how large my edge is on the game. +$5000 months are sexy but not essential. As long as I make enough to cover my bills, maintain my lifestyle (I'm a life nit so thats not hard) enjoy life, play my best, get a good volume in and keep on enhancing as a player I'm goot. Hokiegreg once said practice makes perfect doesnt apply to poker but I desagree. I feel that the more I play the better I get. My reads become more dead on and my general understanding of the game and other players logic enhances, thats why sometimes I dont mind shortterm breakeven or losing sessions because I gain experience and humility. Thats it for now, hopefully by next update I will be out the red for the month! (Fingers Crossed)

Get Your Balls Out My Cereal

Fredebiel just asked me how I am I doing? I told him I have a fucking fishbowl on sharkscope for this month. There is literally a Fucking Fish Jumping in and out of a small tank of water next to my name. Fuck sharkscope and Fuck Pokerstars. I went from having a shark in March to a homosexual fish in April. Bartchalker said it best though "One day the poker gods love you, The next day they put their balls in your cereal."

CRUSHING

March has been my best month ever. I've been mostly only playing the $34.50 HU 4 player games on Stars. These are my results so far this month in them
Games played 456. AVG. Profit $12.29. AVG. Stake $33. Total Profit $5606

Averaging $12+ a game hu in the $33's is insane. $12 a game is what most HU grinders AVG in the $110's on a good month lol. Yea I know what You are thinking, this is a small sample blah blah... But take a look at my lifetime 4 man graph so far after 1492 games

Serious Grinding

Ok, Last Tuesday I finally decided to step it up and play the $55 2 man hu. I grinded 8-12 hours every day with breaks only to eat and shower. because of this I was able to put in 264 games 1 tabling with decent results. I made about $1100 net and I think my potential is much higher. I was able to make this decent profit dispite running horribly and being on a sick 180 game breakeven stretch. The $55's are filled with bad regs and fish I am pretty sure I will be able to dominate this level for the next month. I will begin 2 tabling once I get to $7000 and I will move up to the $115's when I get to $12,000.

Current Roll $5,184

Ok let me start off by apologizing for the long layoff. I have had a pretty crazy month outside of poker. my volume has been nowhere near where I would like for it to be. My results have been pretty solid when I have played though. I began this challenge on November 21, 2008 now its been nearly 3 months and my roll is only at $4,665. Although my Roi is excelent 15% I have 2 very major leaks stopping me from reaching my full potential.
1-Insanely low volume- caused by a completely unorganized lifestyle and distracting people around me.
2-Fear moving up in stakes- Although my game is very capable of beating the higher limits I still tilt very easily and cannot handle the mental aspects of losing a large amount of money. In fact I never feel completely comforatable playing a game unless I have 100+ buyins for that level.

With all that said heres the new plan. I stll think that I am more then capable of reaching the $100,000 mark by November 21, 2009 If I create and follow a realistic proper work schedule each month.
Current Roll- $4,765

How to Play Class 5 Starting Hands

This is a must read by "JoyOfPoker"

Playing Class 5 Starting Hands

Hi Everyone,

Today I'd like to talk about a class of starting hands that most people just fold preflop.
Most poker players know how to play big cards like Kings and Tens, they know how to play pocket pairs and how to play "any two suited cards"; but, only the serious pros know how to play Class 5 starting hands.
I tell my students all the time that if they can't put you on a hand, they can't beat you. So, I offer you a hand that I am particularly proud of.Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $2/$4 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)
SB: $272.90
BB: $1,174.25
Hero (UTG): $756.00
MP: $828.10
CO: $404.20
BTN: $802.40Preflop:
Hero is dealt J 3 (6 Players)Hero raises to $8.00,
MP raises to $28.00,
4 folds, Hero calls $20.
This hand is a Class 5 starting hand. It has the advantage of being able to make a big straight with the Jack, a small straight with the 3 and two different flushes.
I am in the best position at the table. Both blinds are forced to put money in preflop without knowing their cards and I have the immediate position on them and am first to act. I make a standard raise to isolate. MP goes crazy with a huge raise which is a sign of weakness so I call to outplay him postflop.
At some point in the hand, I hope to put him to a decision for all my chips.
Flop: ($62) 5 K A (2 Players)
Hero bets $8.00,
MP raises to $60.00,
Hero calls $52.00.
OK, that's a pretty good flop for my hand.
I hit all my potential back door draws. Both straights are still live as is my spade flush draw. At this point I put out a feeler bet to see where I stand. He raises me huge again which is almost always a bluff. If he had a real hand, he would probably bet $20 to string me along. I tell my students all the time: It's important to understand that when people bet so transparently, you have to go with your reads and trust your postflop skills.
Turn: ($182) 3 (2 Players)
Hero checks,
MP bets $150.00,
Hero calls $150.
Based on his preflop and flop errors, I put him on 78 offsuit or 9T suited. Turn is an easy check to allow him to keep bluffing off his chips because I'm ahead 90% of the time. Remember: You can beat all levels of NLHE with aggressive check/calling.
River: ($482) 3 (2 Players)
Hero bets $20.00,
MP raises to $360.00, Hero raises to $518.00 (all-in),
MP calls $158.00. Now, I know this river play is an advanced concept and will go over many heads in this forum. It's probably more suited for the top 1% of poker players and guys like grimstarr and ImsaKidd will "get it" right away. But, I'll offer it to the few who might understand.
The river play is a Level 4 blocker. I want him to think that I think that he thinks that I think I have a weak hand that just wants to get to showdown. He falls into my trap and makes a bluffy raise. When people's raise amount have a "6" in it, they are almost always bluffing.
So, I push the nuts, he calls, and shows... AK of hearts
Hero takes down a nice pot. Now that we know both the hands, it's obvious villain misplayed all streets and made a crying call on the end. I doubt he even considered putting me on a Class 5 starting hand, which turned out to be his downfall. Also, remember that the second most misplayed hand in poker is AK, so don't fall into the same trap as this guy did. I hope you all were helped a little and I shall see you at the tables.joy

Quick Update

Current Roll-$3,337 (894 Games 18% ROI)

I am Running and Playing very well so far this month. I've been exclusively playing the $23's and I'm up $1100 in just 101 games with a 48% ROI heads up. Although I am very satisfied with my monetary results my volume is no where near where it needs to be. I am still having trouble 2 tabling without giving up edge. Hopefully I can work out the kinks by the end of this month. Also I decided to change my bankroll guidelines. Because I am now exclusively playing 4 mans the variance is much more signifigant thus my Risk Of Ruin has vastly increased. So I will now be playing with a 150 buy in roll and move up every 200 buyins for each level to combat this. I still think that I will be able to make my $100k goal this year despite this. Expecially if I keep crushing like I have so far. That said...Here comes the downswing I bet lol

Brag Post

Despite razz my razz donkage and me going on a 12 game losing streak I'm off to a outstanding start for the year. My ROI heads up after 44 games at the $23 level is a Crushing 57% and I'm up $561 lol. I know that this is obviously unsustainable just great when it happens. And beautiful to look at on the scope lol.
My ROI HU. Since November 21, 2008 is now 17% after 837 games played and my Roll stands at $2800. I hope to have a $5000 month playing the $23's. I have a propbet with "fiddy" for $150 that I wont even make it to $3000 lol.
Here are the conditions of the Propbet though. I can only play HU games under $35 and I cannot play over 1200 games this month. He's giving me 2:1 odds on my money. What do you think am I getting the right odds?

Insane Razz Donkage

Last night /this moring from 2-5am I went on inane monkey tilt. I think I lost like 12 Heads up 4 mans in a row and did something insanely stupid. I decided to try and make back the money I lost playing limit cash Razz. Needless to say I donked off about $400 before wifey shut my computer down and made me go to bed before I jepordized my roll anymore...lol.(Thank God for her) In order to punish myself for this bonehead move I decided to deposit the $400 I got this year in Christmas cards and put it into my poker acccount. I originally planned to use the money to buy a couple of SB Dunks (The MF Dooms and De La Souls) ****

Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone I wish everyone a great and properous one. Let me start off by saying that I now only play 4 mans. I do not play 2 man heads up games at all anymore. All you heads up grinders should seriuously consider playing more 4 mans. The ROI increase that you recieve is rediculous. Check this out Since I began the challenge
I played 366 heads up 2 man games for$11.50 and $23 and I made $603 and had a ROI of 7%.
I played 435 heads up 4 man games for $11.50 and $23 and I made $1793 and had a ROI of 25%.

The bad thing about 4 mans are though the variance is very high. 12 game losing streaks are very common, I've had several so far. Its good to keep a large roll for these. I think that I will Try and keep a 100 buy in roll in order to be able to withstand the variance and move up accordingly.

I've been working on my 2 tabling skills a lot and I seem to be slowly getting the hang of it. I understand that my mastery of 2-3 tabling will be essential in order for me to complete my goal. I am very happy with my volume so far though. Last month I was able to play 700+ games by mostly 1 tabling and playing a ton of 4 mans. I believe that when I finally get the hang of 2 tabling I will be able to pump out 1200-1500 games per month. But for now I will be satisfied with 800-1000 games.

I am sorry to kill you with numbers this post and try to make my next posts a lil bit more interesting lol
